VISION
We believe that the progress of a region is achieved if basic education, especially literacy, is improved.

Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a tool for daily life in modern society. It is a bulwark against poverty, and a building block of development, an essential complement to investments in roads, dams, clinics and factories.

Literacy is a platform for democratization, and a vehicle for the promotion of cultural and national identity. Especially for girls and women, it is an agent of family health and nutrition. For everyone, everywhere, literacy is, along with education in general, a basic human right….

Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.

According to UNESCO data (January 2020), Indonesian people’s interest in reading is very alarming at only 0.001%. This means, out of 1,000 Indonesians, only 1 person is an avid reader. Another survey conducted by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2020, showed that only about 10% of Indonesia’s population read books diligently, indicating a low level of interest in literacy among the community.

There are several factors that can cause low interest in literacy in Indonesia. The first is accessibility. Limited access to literacy resources such as libraries, books and print media is one of the main factors. In the 3T areas: underdeveloped (tertinggal), frontier (terdepan), and outermost areas (terluar), literacy resources are often difficult to reach. The second is the level of education quality. The quality of education in Indonesia also affects literacy interest. Inequality in education and lack of adequate educational facilities can reduce interest in literacy. The last is the reading culture itself. Indonesia’s unsupportive reading culture also affects literacy interest. If reading books is not considered an important or prestigious activity, literacy interest will decline.

In fact, the level of interest in literacy for a nation is very important. Literacy is the key to accessing knowledge and information. By improving literacy, people can expand their knowledge, keep up with scientific developments and improve their quality of life. Reading can also help develop one’s critical thinking skills.

This is what Yayasan Pensil Peduli Indonesia strives for, through Mobil Belajar Nugi.

Menurut data UNESCO (Januari 2020), minat baca masyarakat Indonesia sangat memprihatinkan yakni hanya 0,001%.
